Does my can gateway need updating?
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:53:57 pm »
Hi all,

Recently picked up a Golf GTI 06 5dr DSG. It's a cracking little car, coming from an 04 330Ci Sport it's nice to have better MPG and newer toys.

I've spent a few hours reading posts, but I need some help. The previous owner has fitted an RNS510, it has an ipod connector which seems to function through the CD changer input. Not exactly sure how it works, but it's a bit useless for me as I want to use A2DP. Does anyone know which bluetooth setup I need to buy? I want the standard VW one so that it works with the HU etc. I have a midline display. So the first question is which bluetooth adaptor do I need and can anyone in Kent supply and fit it?

The second question is does my can gateway need updating and how do I do this if so? Can I download the new version from somewhere? The battery seemed to have died when I bought it, so I have replaced it with a pretty hefty Bosch S5 that I had bought for the 330 but fits the Golf perfectly. No problems so far, but then I read about the battery drain issue. Everything mentioned VAGCOM, so I bought one and got it working this evening. The results are below:

CAN GATEWAY:

Address 19: CAN Gateway

     Manufacturer number: 0703

Here is the info from the nav:

     Test stand number: 2063

Misc.
     Hardware number: 1T0 035 680
     Workshop System Name: J0506

Not sure if it helps, but it says the HDD has 18GB free of 18GB total. So I guess its a 20GB version? The screen also seems to take a little while to warm up, does that mean it's the LED version? I have the midline display and I don't have MFSW buttons or Cruise Control, another two things I would like to fit. If someone in Kent can do the whole lot, I'd happily pay for it?

Also, in vagcom, when I tried using the tool to read the mileage it said it wasn't supported - is that normal?

Work has a 2013 Golf GT TDI DSG and that has what looks like the same stereo, but you can get loads of information about the car on it. Can I enable that for my RNS-510?

Can anyone here help? If not, where could I go for help with this? Is there an auto electrician who knows this stuff that I can call?

Ah I see, didn't realise I needed a post count to do that. I am near Maidstone/Rochester but I work in Tunbridge Wells. I would happily pay for the gateway and cruise if you are local. If you could help with the Bluetooth I would also love you forever... ha ha!

I will get my post count up - just took some photos so I'll create a newbie thread!

Thanks for the replies.

Si, your spec list in your sig is pretty much exactly what I am after! F&R parking, Focals with amp, boot pop etc. Are you based in Kent too?

Ah, not too far away - I'm near Bluebell Hill. You have the AMD map and resonated milltek too - would be good to hear what it sounds like! Are there meets which go on around here much?

how funny i'm right near bluebell hill to.

as far as i know there are no meets that i know of on here, i usually stick to another forums meet that i'm more active on, R32OC which we have up lakeside every few months or so, only a small gathering and nothing stupid going on :)

if you wanna meet up and have a chat about mods etc pop me off an email as you can't pvt yet xpert@ntlworld.com and we can exchange numbers.

i did every single mod myself bar the remap and exhaust, so lots to tell you

Loads of extra's and retro fits.

Oh epic! Yeah I will send an email over and maybe we can meet for a beer or something at the weekend. It could work out to be expensive once I see what is possible ha ha...
