New GTI DSG owner
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:26:15 pm »
Hi all,

My name's Dan and I recently bought a 2006 VW Golf GTI DSG 5dr. I had a 330Ci before, but unfortunately it met an end with a kerb a few weeks ago. I've never had a turbo'd car or a VW for that matter.

So far I have to admit, the cheekly little Golf is growing on me. There are a few things I want to sort out, the previous owner fitted an RNS510, which is great, but has no bluetooth for A2DP, and it doesnt have cruise control, rear sensors or buttons on the steering wheel.

It does have quite a few nice features though:

Xenons (would never buy a car without them!)
Sat nav
Sunroof
Heated seats
Auto lights/wipers
MK6 boot badge (I think)
68k miles
FVWSH
18 inch Monza alloys
Good tyres

Here are some pics:

Here is the 330 I came from:

Also, is this ticking noise normal - I was surprised by how noisy this Golf's engine is!

Welcome.
The MK5 GTI is a noisy engine, however I would say yours is excessively so... does it have full history?
Also, I'd change out the cam follower asap:

Cam follower Part Number (Latest as of 20/03/13) : 06D 109 309C
Price: £23.66 + VAT

Hi Scotty,

It does have a full VW SH and the last service was only a couple of thousand miles ago. Would that follower be causing any of the noises you can hear in the video? I'm tempted to run it over to AMD in Essex and let them do the common items, a DSG oil change and a remap. I don't have an M8 bit and that installation looks a little involved for me!

IT's worth doing anyway at your mileage especially if your going to map it (perhaps a Rev G DV too).  I'm sure AMD can do this for you, labour should be less than an hour, more like 30 mins for the Cam Follower, less for the DV.  Give them a ring, they may have both items in stock. :happy2:  I'd hope they would give it a health check before mapping it.
