Electrical Burning Smell coming from engine bay
« on: May 20, 2013, 10:35:36 am »
Hi Guys,

Anybody have any idea what might be causing an electrical type burning smell to be coming from the wife's GTI?  Flicked the bonnet and no obvious signs as to where the smell is coming from and no smoke.  It started last night after a 10 mile journey.  She said it started smelling again on the school run this morning (1 mile journey).

Car seems to drive fine !

thanks
jp

Difficult one that but seeing you have an 06 car from your sig, did you have your coil packs replaced in the VW recall as there have been engine fires associated with the early ones.

They replaced the coil packs as part of the recall in the last service about a thousand or so miles ago !

Might be worth pulling coil packs off I guess to have a look/ smell.

I assume running temp is normal at 90 degrees?
