Fuel Filter Change
« on: May 20, 2013, 12:25:39 pm »
Hi All,

I'm now the proud owner of a new (used) mk5 and I've just had it serviced at the dealership to keep the FVWSH up. I noticed that the fuel filter has never been changed by the previous owners and I asked VW if they could do it for me under the major service, but they refused to do it saying that it never needs doing on a petrol. Surely this is rubbish isn't it? I would expect it needs doing about every 4 years and the car is 7 years old so far...

Are they right in saying it never needs doing? I just think it's going to cause problems in the future if it's not changed.

Cheers,

Steve.

VW dont have it as part of the schedule.  It very much worth having it changed.  The dirt that comes out of old ones is unreal.  Iirc they are around £28 for a genuine filter and around 30mins max to change.

Take it to an independant.

Cheers. You confirmed for me what I was thinking. I'll put it on my to do list for the car and get it done when I next take it in.

Just had mine swapped at the annual service (independent garage) for the reasons mentioned...

Get it done, can also solve fuel starvation from being blocked.

Rear drivers side underneath, 3 lines to be removed by pushing in a tab. Easy job.

I replaced mine at 50k miles on my old Shadow Blue GTI

Didn't notice a difference in the way it drove but for the sake of £25 it's well worth doing to maintainva healthy fuel system  :happy2:
