my car has got a shark fin aerial on my golf what does this mean

Cars after 05/06 came with a roof mounted aerial to boost reception... it simply means someone has changed it perhaps?

my worry about that is is that the last owner of my car was an old man and i mean old i cant imagine him going to hassle of doing this sort of mod to be honest i have read that may be gps upgraded or dab could this be right

Some cars do have an aerial of that style, but I think it came with one of the optional extras to do with the stereo or something. If it looks the same as the one in the pic below then that's an original. If it's different to that then someone might have added it

exactly same as picture mate spot on must be just standard thanks for clearing that up

Going back to what Jaymondo said about 05/06.

What year is your car?
If it is an early Mk5, some of them never came with roof aerials. It could simply be a dummy aerial if this is the case.

Mine has a shark fin, came with an mfd2 sat nav as a factory option. 56 plate Ed30

hasn't got sat nav but that's not saying it didn't it was a bloody expensive car new as got the receipt

Put the option codes (found on the sticker in the owners manual) in here to see if the car originally came with a sat nav.

Same, mine originally came with phone prep for an old Sony Ericsson phone, was removed before it came over here.
