225/45/r17 = please help

so guys..  needed some tyres for my new wheels- and my  dad decided to get them for me while i was at work ! (such a nice thought)!

BUTTT....

hes got  225/45/17 = he sent me a picture, and tbh - they look horrible.

Anyone got any pics of some 17inch weels with these ttyres on >?

225/45/17 is the factory size for 17"wheels on the mk5  :happy2:

225/40/18
225/45/17

Creates an almost infinitesimal difference of -0.47% or 3mm Diameter. :happy2:

Profile is a percentage... the 17 inch 225/45 will have a much larger tyre profile than a 18 inch 225/40. :happy2:

Plus the rims above make the wheel look smaller because they don't extend to the edge of the rim... a Monza 17 wouldn't look so bad.

Are you after some stretch or just smaller profile tyres?

Maybe 215/40/17 its slightly smaller rolling radius so will throw out the Speedo a bit...

i just spoke to the guy at the tyre shop who said they have a set of  215/40/17r ?

would these be anygood?

225/40/17 is less of a diameter change than the 215/40/17.  But as Will says may still throw the speedo out slightly... iirc you can alter this in VCDS.

Putting lower profile tyres on them will make them look worse as the wont fitt the wheel arch properly.
