Diamond cut look !!
« on: May 27, 2013, 03:24:51 pm »
Hey guys i have 18" monza's on my GTi (diamond cut and painted to look like monza shadows, like on the mk6) but they are covered in white worm and look awful   so I'm getting them refurbed on Thursday, but i don't want the diamond cut this time as I don't want the white worm to come back,so was going to get them powder coated silver fleck with the black inside, just the same look as i have just finished a different way, what are your thoughts ?? Will I be spoiling the look I have at the moment ??

Have a look at the MK5/6 wheels thread. Robin did his in smoked chrome.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

i think it will be hard for them to do the black inserts and silver face with paint, will mean a lot of taping off over the new paint which will still be soft?

the diamond cut shadow look is easier because the just spray those areas and any over spray is taken off by the diamond cut process..

I planned on doing something like that, but my refurb place wouldn't attempt powdercoating inserts a different colour because they wouldn't be able to get the same clean line at the edges like with diamond cut. I got smoked chrome instead and I actually prefer how they look now!

Hard to do it justice in a photo, because the look changes depending on angle and light, but here you go:  :happy2:

Are you Dorset based (going on the photos)? If so did you use a local company for the refurb' and do you rate their service / cost?

As to the finished result I'm going to get i only hope as as nice as i have just now, to the sharpness of the black next to the silver ? But this was the 3rd place i tried, and they gave me a good sales pitch, and said they would be confident to get a nice sharp finish to the edges, and they sold be on a nice silver fleck next to the black as i really want a silver wheel on the car, although you do have a nice finish on your wheels mate :)

Can you post a pic when you have it done, I'm in exactly the same situation as you. Was going to get new wheels but refurb sound more tempting!

Yeah, well spotted! I used Silverwheels in Ferndown:

http://www.silverwheelsltd.co.uk/

I would certainly recommend them. They know their craft well and are happy to do custom jobs. They do a  3 coat finish on the wheels and can do a set in a day. I paid £300 for repairing and colouring my wheels which I thought was a decent price. They seem to have a good reputation and I have seen Porsches, Aston Martins etc in there.

They look great and that's just up the road from me in Christchurch . Do you think smoked chrome would look ok on candy white ?
