Battery Drain, just fitted Alpine headunit
« on: May 28, 2013, 06:02:29 pm »
I need some help, I just fitted an alpine head unit to replace my mfd2 and no matter how I wired it, it has a constant live and is draining the battery after 1-2 days. I've read about the canbus gateway needing to be updated for the rns510 but wasn't sure if that was the problem I had here. appreciate any help

The stereo is a Alpine IDA-X100 and its a 2006 golf gti

cheers

Different problem to factory HU's.

There is no native switched live in the OEM loom, so you need to take a switched live feed to your Alpine loom from elsewhere (drivers fusebox is best). Or buy a CAN adaptor box fromthe likes of Connect2 which tells your aftermarket stereo to shutdown on ignition off.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

No probs, should be a quick and easy fix.

Seach for 'Add a circuit', items such as 180735526749 come up, and these take 5 minutes to fit nce you run some wire from the HU loom.
Best using a multimeter to find a switched live first if buying these, as there is a mixture of mini blade and normal blade fuses in that compartment - so you'd want to buy the right sized one.
