Are they the same size? I read it somewhere but can't locate, that someone used a Mk4 rear badge took apart the Mk5 white wormed one, primed/painted/lacquer and stuck the Mk4 badge ontop.
Just wondering if anyone has done this, as Mk4 rear badges are a whole load cheaper than the Mk5 ones currently on eBay. Plus I like the idea of keeping the slow close if poss.
It will be for a Mk5 MY2005 GTI if it makes any diff.
I have done this a few times with variations. First tried a mk4 badge but wasn't that impressed as it doesn't have any rolled edges so didn't sit as well I would have liked. They won't sit over the edges of the base like the current metal whiteworm badges do - just on top. I also just used vinyl on the base instead if spraying. Either way you need to fill the top hole on the base as it is visible when you pull off the ok whitewormed badge.
The other option is to cover the whiteworm badge in vinyl or spray it, then stick a 3D badge on top - or just wrap the badge and leave it as the flat badge, like the carbon fibre one in the for sale section
I have found that the generic vw 100/110mm badges you can get off ebay for about £5 are pretty good. They come with tape already on too.
Another alternative is a scirocco badge which would give you the mk6 beveled style badge.
Here are a few I have done to give you an idea of the side profiles with badge still in place and badge removed first
Or just wrapped once whiteworm sanded off
Hope that helps
I'm working on a special incarnation at the moment where I get a mk5 3D badge to fit done over the base just like the whiteworm badge does, involves plenty of Dremel use though
