Nice to see you too! it had to happen today,i was off all week and now i start a new job on monday,no garage time.if u cant drive it how do i get it checked out????!!!!

Get it towed to a dealer. Or get a friendly local to plug a VCDS into just to see what the error is.
There is a low oil light - I've never seen it - but it doesn't flash. Flashing implies badness.

The orange light does sort of flash - in a slow speed cycle - similar to say the low fuel warning.  But if it is rapid flashing, then maybe that means the sensor is faulty?

Need help quick gents!!

Went to start the car and the orang flashing low oil light came on, i check the oil and i was low (school boy error!) so i have filled it up to the required level on the dipstick, let it all settle down but when i come to start the car i still have the warning light on, what should I do folks????

thanks Martin

Just so your aware, the oil light is not an oil level light as most people think, its an oil pressure alarm

Nope - that is just plain wrong.  The RED warning light is for the oil pressure, whereas the yellow/orange light is for the oil level!

which means basically you have caused damage.. If its still on its because there is still low oil pressure.. Sorry if thats not what you want to hear..

Even too low an oil level can still cause damage!

To be honest I didnt notice that the OP had mentioned the colour of the light..

Of course a low oil level can cause damage, thats what I said..???

Fixed the car woo hoo!

I think i should become a mechanic, its not a hard job! no actually i gave my local friendly volks specialist CHORLEY AUTOVOLK and they told me it may be the micro switch under the bonnet, at first i thought it sounded stupid but in theory it could make sense, the car hadnt registered that id opened the bonnet and actually checked.  I went under and checked around, gave it a wiggle and a squirt of WD40 and taa daa its fine now.  Strange little car!

But thanks alot for all your advice guys it was all really helpful

Cheers Martin

Not strictly on topic, but I bookmarked this a while ago, and it may be of interest.  I know it is American, but it makes some pertinent points.

The top bit of the MFD (in the highline) flashes yellow slowly to signify low fuel. I don't know if that also flashes for oil? Or is he talking about the actual oil light itself?

Whilst that site does have some very good info, it also has some truely incorrect info too - just don't take that as gospel-truth!

The top bit of the MFD (in the highline) flashes yellow slowly to signify low fuel. I don't know if that also flashes for oil?

Yup, all 'yellow' warnings are classed as 'priority 2' warnings, and flash slowly (they actually ping up intially with a warning chime, then revert back to the previous display - usually time and date, or nav orientation - and then cycle alternating).  Same if you have low screen wash.  But if the actual sensor is faulty, then it may well flash at a different rate - though I'm not 100% certain.  I know that Audis operate slightly differently, but they have two different methods of warning for either low oil, or a sh@gged oil level sensor.

But any 'red' warnings are classed as 'priority 1' warnings - and obviously, the car should be stopped ASAP - and low oil pressure would be a red priority 1.

Or is he talking about the actual oil light itself? :cnfused:

Dunno - it depends on weather you have highline or midline.  On the highline, you get the large icon in the top 1/4 of the MFD, whereas on midline, you just get the small warning lights - similar in size to say the main beam warning light.
