Wanting a MK5 DSG
«

Hi Guys,
New post here. I am seriously tempted at getting a MK5 GTI DSG model, I am only after a DSG model.
What should I be looking out for when viewing them?
My price range is between 6 to 8k tops. I have had a range of cars before (CTR/M3/M5/330ci) but not an auto, currently due to work a DSG Golf fits the bill exactly.
Any advice would be great
(apart from you should buy a manual)

What I mean by tips etc, I mean towards the DSG box, not MK5's in general!

Get it on a hill nose pointing down, get it in reverse and it foot off the brake, it should be smooth and reverse up the hill, if it jumps or stutters its one sign of faulty metronomics unit which is 1k fix.

Yes, I have heard about the mechatronics unit. What other advise do you have to test if its faulty or not?

Drive more than one dsg car, you will notice if there's issues with one.
Make sure it's been serviced every 4years.

I and others on here have had DSG for several years with no probs. As previously been said make sure you get
the box serviced. I've had my ED 30 DSG for nearly 5 years now....no probs.
Hope you get what your looking for.

Thanks guys! :) going to drive a few. All I want is a 3dr DSG with good miles for under 7/7.5k.
Think that is reasonable? I'm not too fussed about other options - xenons would be nice as I don't fancy going back to candle light.. And other options as a must?

Gearbox should be smooth with no jerks. Serviced every 40K & make sure it has the shift paddles on the steering wheel. "Pikey paddles" are worth buying too. Personally I've owned both ans would recommend a Manual, not that it matters
