Trouble with 2007 2.0 170 GT after service

Hi everyone,

I could really do with some advice on this issue, so any help would be massively appreciated.

Had my 170 GT just in for a major service and cambelt change. Next morning it wouldn't start as normally does - took about 6-8 seconds of starter motor to get it going. Excessive diesel smell also noticed. In addition, when at rest in idle, very noticeable sporadic shuddering coming from engine, easily felt in drivers seat. Car also showing signs of stuttering during normal driving, especially when held at same throttle amount, particularly at lower speeds in 1st and 2nd gear.

Took it back the garage twice, who reckon that because VW didn't change the fuel filter at the injector recall (4 months prior to service), when the 'tipped' it, the injectors got contaminated. Local VW did a diagnostic and couldn't find anything wrong with the injectors.

Currently at an impass between both of them.

Anyone seen anything similar on their Mk5 GT? Advice of what it could be?

My first thought would be check timing if its had a belt ...if its out slightly in vcds it would make it harder to start ..and maybe lumpy plus it would smoke a bit more ..

Those symptoms all sound DPF related to me, is it idleing slightly higher than usual aswell?

was it ok before it went into the garage!If yes then it sounds like the timing isnt right

It was a beaut before it went in.

DPF has never had any issues either. Idling a little lower if anything.

defo sounds like pump timing is out a little...
can be checked on vcds in measuring block 44 i think it is...
reading should be between -1.0 and +1.0

Definately timing. Mine is doing exactly the same after having the timing belt done. It's the only thing it can be!
How hard can it be?

Just an update for future reference....apparently it was the camshaft position sensor. I collect it next Wednesday, so will HOPEFULLY confirm it then.

so in other words they damaged the sensor whilst changing the belt imo, and you have to pay for it. or they're correcting the belt timing they got wrong in the first place
