all I did was change spark plugs
« on: June 03, 2013, 03:38:14 pm »
So alex sent me some new spark plugs.
Thought I'd change them, as I have done before.

Battery off
Airbox off
Coilpacks out
Spark plugs out

Then reverse.

Now if I go anywhere near 5000rpm whether that be a wot or very slowly the revs just drop and I get no go until I take my foot off the accelerator.

I have swapped spark plugs back and same issue.

No fault code.

Have I damaged something?  Maybe coil pack? Every time its been a coil pack before I have had eml and a code and its been down to how much power I apply not revs.

Id just re check everything. Make sure the maf is plugged in. The Coil packs are firmly pressed onto the plug. The loom is clipped onto each coil pack correctly. The plugs are correctly torqued up to 21lbs. Much more than that there isn't a lot that can go wrong.

Have the plugs come pre-gapped or do they need altering to suit?

I'm assuming you bought some D4YS, if so, what do you have them gapped to?

Alex gapped and lubed them.

But I have gone back to standard plugs with same issue.

I don't have a torque wrench so just made them tight. Woukd this issue be caused by them not being tight enough?

Have you dropped anything into the turbo intake tube or into the air box?

I had a similar problem years ago on a 1.8T motor - found out we blocked the cold air feed so it wasn't picking up enough air for it to rev!

Ed I seem to recall you have an APR map so double check that you haven't switched into valet mode (assuming that mode is in your map).

I was thinking that but have you seen the procedure to change to valet mode? It's easier to send a man to the moon!

I'll do battery and check the map mode this morning, I have a new maf and some coil packs waiting my collection at tps too.

if you disconnect your battery will you loose the settings for the map and revert back to basic settings like revo does

You don't, apr stays the same. I asked that direct question when having it fitted. Plus you use the cruise control stalk to change maps and every time I disconnected the battery it stayed on the 3flashes map....thank god.

I must admit I don't know the technical procedure but if the ecu isn't locked out then the map can actually change whilst driving as seen in many cases in the US.

Hope you get it sorted asap whatever the reason.
