The first signs of rust ?
« on: June 08, 2013, 02:27:22 pm »
Hey folks,
Upon starting my cleaning of the car today I noticed what appears to be the early signs of rust on my drivers front wing.
Now I am aware that VW will look at rust under the warranty but was wondering if my case would get anywhere, I've attached a photo to the post for people perusal.

Is it worth contacting VW over this small amount or god forbid...wait till its worse ?

Also on a side note, I only noticed today that my side skirt appears to have a sort of mottled effect to it, as if something was attached and removed, perhaps it can be seen in the pic above, any side thoughts on this too folks

Thanks as always :)
JD

I'd get that booked in now. That's pretty bad. If your car has been painted there before, chances are it might not get repaired.

Book it in now.  When I got mine done the rust spot was smaller than the size of a 5p coin and hadn't even broken the paint

I'd say that's more than a first sign... try and get some joy out of VW.

First I've actually noticed it to be honest ! Guess whatever paint was being barely held on over it came off quite recently. I'm going to give my local VW a call on Monday and see what they say...don't see me getting far, my local (Telford) seem to have a bad rep by all accounts.

I know my passenger wing was replaced / resprayed under insurance following a minor car accident a few months back, but in the time of my ownership, almost 2 years now the driver side wing has never had any work done to it.

They will tell you to go to the bodyshop in Shrewsbury. My photos were taken last Friday. Just waiting to hear back

I suspected as much, should I have any issues with an '04 plate, I'm sure I read somewhere the "Paint and Rust Warranty" was 10 years ? so this should in theory be ok...I hope !!

Have a read of the rust warranty threads, all you need to know is in there! That rust doesn't come under their warranty as its not perforation. It is always done as a "good will gesture". Can be pot luck depending on dealer, but don't take no for an answer!

spotted some on drivers side arch about 3 weeks back.

if you have spotted the sight of rust on one wing, "should they be replacing both if the other doesn't show signs as yet, pondering if worth going in if just one as I could hold out as its not to horrific yet.

if they do replace both would you be footing the bill for the passenger side?

They'll only replace what's rusting.

On this car they did one at the start of the year, the other will get done no bother if/when it needs.
My last mk5, both were rusting and got done at the same time.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)
