What Oil Should I Use For...
« on: April 03, 2016, 04:16:25 pm »
Apologies in advance for another oil question.

2005 MK5 GTI 91k miles on the clock, K03 engine I think?

Does about 10-15k miles a year made up of:

- A lot of countryside journeys between 7-15 miles each time.
- The odd longer journey on the A roads and motorway about 90 miles round trip once/twice a month.

I noticed that the previous owner put in Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 in.  Cant remember exactly what's in there at the moment but beleive its something 5w30.

What would you recommend I use?

Thanks in advance for reading   :drinking:

Matt.

Personally I would stick to standard Castrol or Shell (what ever the dealers use) if the car is standard and not using much oil.

If it's tuned and / or using a bit, switch to a decent 5W40.  Millers NanoDrive is a popular choice on here.

I use Mobil 1 5W30 ESP in my tuned Edition 30.  I just remember it being the mutts nuts in the 90s, so seems like a good choice for a TFSI too.
