I've got a spare dedicated server not doing much, can whack the files and DB on for testing, its only a little dual core / 4gb / raid 1 jobby, but should be fine as a test bed... Assuming it's not windows based.

As for the live environment, I'm buying into some VPS's at the end of the month so would be good to see what's decided...

I do think we should have a membership fee of say £5 though if we do pull through this

again no this is something that i think users personally would find to be unacceptable. We would not want to charge members of the forum for using it nor spam it with adverts.

ideally would want to keep the site as close to how it is now as possible. I am just awaiting a PM/call/email back from Steve.

Granted that no-one wants advertising, but IF no-one can take over the technical running of this site (together with the Admin power!), then a percentage of something is better than 100% of nothing. Simples :)

I won't abandon ship if advertising has to be done to survive but I may do according to who takes over Admin.

Well this is it, personally I feel i would run for donations in a similar manner (that being people who feel happy donating that would be gladly accepted and this would sit in an account purely for the purposes of running the site) as is currently but I'd end up paying for most of it I feel (which up to a point I'd be okay with??)

Well... The forum needs updating to v2. So that would lead to downtime, but hopefully the trade off would be better stability in the long run.

Fair enough, I understand keeping it as it is.
But rather than losing the forum altogether if the worst comes.. Would it be an option to advertise etc then?
I'd personally rather have a forum with adverts than no forum at all

I think a lot of members- myself included who have given but also gotten a lot out of the forum would be more than happy to donate to keep it running. I personally don't think that say £10 per person per year would be much to use such a great forum 

At the same time if it can run from general donations from those who wish to then all the better!

Perhaps once all the above server etc info is known then a forum vote could help?

Got 30 days to test and upgrade to version 2... Could run various versions for benching etc.  might be a blessing in the form of ironing out issues without DT.  Although, there maybe slight DT for some whilst the DNS's catchup, up to 72 hours, but much faster these days, alas, better that than people updating the wrong DB.

I'm sure with everyone working together it'll be fine, perhaps it's worth putting some old conflicts to bed at the same time.
