how hard/easy would it be to run the car on it?

Not really a massive issue, so long as the E85 is compatible with the fuel lines, injectors, seals etc etc.. As some E85 will corrode those parts if left sitting for a while..

It would just be a case of possibly optimizing injector size (depending on what turbo you are running) and flow rates etc, then mapping the car to make the most of it, so you would be able to run a fair bit more ignition advance because of the low temp of the combustion and the high affective octane rating.. (up to 120 Ron)

thats pretty much what i thought you would need to sort out to run the stuff but as you saykeeping it stored could be a problem but as a trailor queen it could be good

Mods yes but way too many to stick in this little box

Tolurine is used in some of the race E85 fuels to up the energy content but its baaaaad for everything.. The who fuel system had to be flushed with normal petrol every time the car ran to make sure it didnt destroy all the parts it touched!

Oh hell yeah - it's pure evil, I swear you can see it trying to give you cancer! He just banged a load in for 1/4mile racing and ran it on normal stuff daily to flush it.

Oh, I know I say this every time, but the car is looking superb - I actually get a little bit giddy when I see this thread updated  :ashamed:

Jonny - I had a good look around your car parked on the forum 'stand' yesterday.

Good: Looks absolutely like a 'normal' road car and not as hardcore as it really is. Looks very stylish and obviously some performance features can be recognised and enjoyed by the cognescenti.

Not so good: The lower front grill surround is still unfinished (or looks so). And those little depressions in the bonnet surely shouldn't be there. VWR's car is the same but I haven't spoken to Mark about it as yet.

I hope you don't mind my honesty in my comments. :smiley:

Totally agree on the lower grill, I have had one on order for a while now, turns out I can collect it tomorrow! Shame I didnt have it on for yday!

Im waiting to hear back from VWR on the bonnet, sure it will be sorted right away..

Apart from that I agree, im into the stock look, it will look quite different pretty soon! Keep watching!  :happy2: :wink:

Jonny

....That's one of the (many) great things I like about VWR - They give you total confidence in the knowledge that both Mark and Sam are real petrolheads and would want to sort it out even if you weren't bothered!

Here we go.. Its a bit wordy this one, but full of fun stuff!  :happy2:

Plans for the car!!

I know I have already gone a long way with this thing but I have decided that its about time I kept a car for a longer stretch and really finish it up to the spec that I would really dream of..

Its going to end up a full race spec Golf to be honest, but with the comfort and usability of something like a 996 GT3 RS or 360 CS.. For sure a compromise over the standard car, but nothing that would drive you insane, and the performance etc should more than make up for all that stuff anyways!!

So here we go, these are the parts / jobs that I want to complete on the car over the next how ever long it takes.. I would love to get it finished for GTI International, but im not sure how feasible thats going to be as its only 2 months away!

Power

To be honest im pretty much at the limit of the K04 turbo already, but im sure that I can improve things a little, probably no more peak power or torque but more driveability and response through the rev range..

Some of these parts are being replaced purely to save weight over the items that are on the car currently..

* Custom bar & plate intercooler core in stock location
* Custom 3" carbon intake system / Titanium Maf heatshield / Carbon filter heatshield / Little bit of gold heat tape too  :wink:
* Custom throttle body to intercooler pipe with DV recirc take off
* Custom 3" Titanium exhaust system - Single box design

Suspension + Brakes

Something that has been neglected to be honest due to the fact that I bought the FK coils due to the fact that they would sit the car extremely low, and nothing much more than that! I bought them when I was planning on running the car for only a couple of months as a stop gap, so I was going to lower it, stick some fancy wheels on then leave it.. Thats what I though lol!!

Obviously the brakes need doing too!

* Custom spec Ohlins 3 way adjustable dampers
* Poly bush full car
* Lightweight adjustable anti-roll bars
* OEM Scirocco rear hubs and bottom arms
* Custom spec wheels 18x9 to run 255/35/18 cut slicks
* VW Racing / Project Mu big brake kit

Weight saving parts!

This is the big one! As I take the weight out of the car, its just coming to life, everything is sharpening up, brakes, handling etc etc.. Not to mention the power to weight ratio, running a maxed out K04 with the target base weight should see me 370hp/tonne.. You would need just over 500hp to match that with a stock weight ED30!!!

* Carbon fixed back Recaro's on fixed base frames with aluminium side mounts
* All interior under carpet sound deadening material removed
* Misc interior parts lightened / removed
* Carbon front wings
* Carbon boot lid
* Carbon boot floor
* Full air conditioning system removed
* Polycarbonate rear 3 windows
* Custom Halogen headlights
* Fog lights removed
* Headlight washer system removed

And a couple of bits just for looks..

* Carbon mirrors
* Matte Black vinyl wrap (all non carbon parts)
* Carbon roof vinyl (Sounds tacky but this stuff uses real carbon)
* Carbon interior trims
* Carpet rear of car to maintain OEM look

So there we are, quite a few plans for the car as you can see, you probably all think im mad doing this to a Golf, but I just love it haha..

So its not certainly not going to be the most powerful GTI out there, and probably never will be.. But round a track, I would challenge any GTI anywhere to keep up  :wink:
