I would like 450BHP with around 350ft/lbs, you would be very surprised, a well set up FWD car with high quality plate type LSD and sticky tyres can cope with that power no trouble at all, its the torque and sudden boost that will break traction, so its all in the tuning really

Jonny

Speaking to Mark from VWR today, I asked about the torque limit of the DSG gearbox and he was quite certain that you can't push it beyond 295 ft/lbs (400nm) without clutch slip,  As for the uprated DSG clutch packs, he wasn't too sure about whether they worked well or not

Ilyun, mine has been running 360lb/ft+ for over 25,000 miles and nearly a year. Hasn't slipped once... Touch wood.

....I'm going to stick my neck out here and suggest, based on my own conversations with Mark, that he meant that to push DSG beyond 300 ft lb / 400 Nm increases the risk of clutch slip.

Regarding the uprated DSG clutch packs, he's probably unsure because VWR haven't 'driven them to death' yet (as far as I know). I've noticed that VWR/RL are very cautious about fully supporting a product for the public until they have very thoroughly tested it themselves, but then they stand behind it 200%.

HTH :happy2:

I think your comments are spot on there Robin.  I spoke to Mark regarding DSG software upgrades and he said that they hadn't been tested properly and that they could potentially damage a customer car so they weren't going to release it just yet... he then said, oh but the race cars have been running the software at extreme conditions for a while now and there haven't been any issues.  I gathered from this, that VWR test every publically available mod to death before they approve it  :happy2:  As for pushing dsg beyond 400nm increasing the risk of clutch slip rather than guaranteeing clutch slip, I think thats what he meant - i.e. that it increases the likelihood.

Sorry Jonny, we're hijacking your thread here and making ourselves at home  :signLOL:   BTW,VWR are fitting the race-spec aluminium engine mounts to my car and top mounts as I was screaming out for a nice bit of negative camber after driving the test car... to hell with the front tyres... although Mark said it should have too much of an effect and that people overstate the amount of tyre wear you get on the fronts.  Having said that, in terms of the improved handling which is like night and day, its well worth the trade off for my own car.

....I don't think they test every publicly available mod, but rather only the mods which they feel are relevant/appropriate to their needs.

Sorry if I seem picky over your words but I'm just doing what I can to clarify things as I understand them.

[Again, I have no vested interest in VWR/RL but I am a "fanboy" because my experiences have been nothing but excellent and I've grown to know their ethos]

Off to Wales now! :happy2:

To date I have not had a better experience with a garage than with VWR - just awesome... very approachable, great customer service even though their primary focus is motorsport and expertise thats second to none as far as fast VWs are concerned.
