GTI..

3dr - 1328KG
5dr - 1328KG
DSG 3 & 5dr - 1347KG

All of which seem very low to me.. Interesting that the 3 and 5 door cars are listed as having the same weight.

My car weighed in at 1320KG on the VWR scales with roughly 20 litres of fuel in, hence the 1300KG weight. That is with roughly 105KG of weight saving, so I would say the standard 3 door DSG ED30 weighs around the 1400KG mark, if not a little more..

None of that really explains how RR's car is almost 1500KG! With 20KG of weight saving.. Very strange..

Jonny

^ Stoopid me!! That (before corner-weighting) was with my body weight plus three-quarters tankful of fuel! Duh! [Or was it? - I took the pic!]

I dunno what I weigh (about 15 stone? 95 Kg?) and don't have any bathroom scales at home (now being a single guy!). That would make more sense methinks.

@Mike - Yes, I have a sunroof - How heavy is that FFS? (am DSG too)

I think yours would be more like 1375KG with no fuel or driver then.. Sounds about right!

Ill get a pic of the scales next time im in at VWR, im really hoping that I should be able to get it down to low 1200's..

Ahh, all becomes clear. Sunroof = no idea, but a panel of glass and a mechanism surely weighs more than a sheet of thin metal. Not much though I'd imagine..

Right, I'll stop littering now Jonny.

500bhp FTW!

Remember what you said about doing things right the first time, rather than chasing upgrades and potentially wasting money?

Just do it, you can always wind it down if it's too much - you can't add power as easily!

Yeah, just want to make sure I have the headroom in this set-up to get to the overall goal of 500hp+

Dont think there will be any more money involved going from 425-450hp to 500hp+ if I make sure that the turbo etc is capable..

Dont really want to be the first one to find out how strong the DSG 'box is!

Yup, by doing the internals I suppose you can scale the rest quite easily.

Big power always means fragility somewhere and you'll always be chasing it, but I think your plan to focus on BHP instead of the killer torque is deffo the way forward.

The force is strong with you young one  :happy2:

I love this project, but what is the aim? I know you said it wasn't just chasing big power! Pioneer or just want to abuse super cars in a Golf?

I know if I had the kind of money you have, I'd be taking the track route (I know this wouldn't appeal to you though  :signLOL:)

....Jonny already races Aston Martins, so he already has that satisfaction. Perhaps he just wants to reproduce some of that performance in his road car but also have some fun doing quarter-miles and trackdays.

Excellent! I was thinking the other night, with the figures you mentioned, there won't be many other mk5s worldwide with those kind of figures, right?

Anyway always great to see an epic modding thread.  :happy2:

At the minute there is 5 Mk5's over the 500 crank HP figure.. Thats the cars that are present on the forums etc.. Sure there are quite a few more too, but its not just figures really for me..

I just want it to be super fast! haha..
