Update..

Custom carbon intake system

Just to keep this fully up to date..

As some of you may know I got some parts whilst I was away, couldn't resist taking some pics!!





And pre assembled (obviously without the MAF housing/turbo bend at the mo)



I got the intake onto the car, after a lot of work to make it fit! That filter is pretty huge.. Its rated to 650hp+ That could be seen as massive over kill, and it kind of is, but I wanted to fit the largest filter I possibly could on the car, this is what I ended up with!

Pretty pleased with how it looks!! Goes well too!!




Initial impressions are good, it seems the car is a little more willing to rev out top end, and the whole intake system weights just under 2kg now, down from the standard air box which weights in at around 8kg

There is still things to do to finish off the full system.. Im planning on shrouding off all of the intake from the engine bay with a custom carbon fibre heatshield which will run from the above the turbo, right round the side of the engine and stop at the filter heatshield, this should be the last measure at keeping the heat out.

All the underside of the heatshielding will be covered with heat resistant matting, the stuff is used to protect carbon flat floors from the heat of exhausts, so its going to be up to the job!

To feed in the filter with air, im still running a venturi duct from the fog grill and obviously there is also the OEM scoop..

The car is going back in to VW Racing on Wednesday for a few days, just for a general health check and a couple more goodies!!

Do you have the dimensions for the parts you have used, i was thinking the other day that it couldnt be too hard to make up an intake, obviously to a lesser standard than what you have bought

3" tube, just make sure that it fits to space that you have.. The key part is the MAF housing and turbo bend..

Just a small note..

The car is with VW Racing now until Monday.. Let's just say that there is going to be quite an update when I get home!!
