Vibration through steering wheel when braking
« on: June 10, 2013, 06:56:05 pm »
When i brake quite hard i get a vibration through the steering wheel. I have had my brakes pads and discs for about 2 years now (R32 Brakes) which is leading me to think it is probably something needs changing :ashamed:

If my brakes pads were low would it cause the vibration?
Also read that warped discs can cause vibration, is there any way of checking?

Probably some simple answer  :signLOL:

Id think it would be warped brake discs, there is a way of Checking this by removing the wheel and putting this gauge thing on the disc and turning the disc but I can't think of the proper name of the gauge thing. Might be others ways but that's the one I know of. Get it in a garage that can carry this out  :happy2:

I'd start by jacking it up and checking eack wheel for play, could be a track rod end/wheel bearing on it's way too. is it all the time or just when you've been giving them a bit of stick?

Think i will get it checked by a garage as braking is rather important lol. Its only after of giving it some stick then having to brake quickly, doesnt seem to stop as well as it used to either but guess that is done to wear. Gentle braking it feels fine.

R32 calipers are known to warp the discs relatively easily.
If it's only when braking it will 99.9% your rotors and nothing else.

If it's a warped brake disc it would do it all the time, not just after hard driving.

Not at all.
He says when "braking hard".
Braking hard will emphasis any warpage within the discs.

Could be pad deposits on the discs? Try doing a heat cycle on them and see how you get on.

Sounds like it can be a few things. Will be hoping to take a trip to Aks next month so will see if alex knows the cause if it.

What is a heat cycle?  :ashamed:

Braking hard will emphasis any warpage within the discs.

He say's braking QUITE hard, hence the reason for my first question. then replies afterwards saying (after giving them a bit of stick and braking sharply).
if he has a warped disc it will be warped all the time, the warp on the disc doesn't go away once it's cooled down' it will just be more severe when hot.meaning it's more noticable when hot,  the probable cause of this problem will be a build up on the edge of the disc that the pads barely touch, or a build up of corrosion on the middle of the inner side of the disc,
