Without wishing to sound too stupid, but what are coil packs and why do they need replacing?

They are an electrical "device" that forms part of the spark ignition system on each cylinder, so there are 4 in total. Versions before something like Revision F had an issues where they failed meaning you lost power on the affected cylinder and in a very small number of cases cars caught on fire. The dealers have been replacing the coil packs on affected cars when they next visit the dealers. They started this campaign in about 2010 but because it isn't an official recall they don't contact you, so many cars which are now being serviced elsewhere haven't been back to the dealers to have this done.

Presumably because your car is new enough that it has coil packs which don't have the above problem or because they have already been changed.
