Interior rattles!
« on: June 14, 2013, 08:53:00 am »
Hi guys, is there a guide of some sort that anybody knows of to cure the common interior rattles in the mk5 golf?

My car has several rattles and they are doing my nut it!! I thought these cars were supposed to be well built?!

Anyway, if anybody has an idea, let me know :)

Where do the rattles come from?
What parts of the car?

Mine is awful today after having Vibratechnics dogbone bush fitted today - not sure I can cope wit it long term!

The rattle comes from the RNS/top vent area.

I have replaced the top vent as one of the clips was broken but this made no difference and could not see any other loose screws when it was out  :sad1:

How weird...I was literally about to post the exact same topic!

I've got one from the roof level light/panel and one from the passenger side dash area. Both driving me crazy on long drives, unless I have the stereo at full blast  :jumping:

My money is on the inner light clusters...

Take off inner section and you'll see a load of red tabs poking through, pull through and glue up... search for boot rattle my post should come up...

I've got several rattles.

Had the centre dash top vent one - sorted that with some sound deadening material.

I've got one in the passengers rear quarter panel

One in the bootlid

Several around the dashboard- particularly around the clocks and dash end panels.

I'm particularly sensetive to rattles as i hate them with a passion!!

I'm really quite disapointed in the build quality of this car. My Astra 'H' was rattle free after 85k miles and the materials where much better - more soft touch. It's not even close to my old bmw one series. At least it goes well lol.

I used stuff similar to this to cure the centre top dash vent rattle.

I used stuff like that (but better quality) throughout my entire car when i had my mk4 ibiza - hugely reduced road noise and stopped rattles.

Did the light cluster yesterday after months of annoying rattle - having taken apart most of the rear trim! - it worked!!!! no more rattle. :happy2:
Whole job only took about 20mins including finding the super glue.
First thing to try I recon.
