Engine conversion (AXX engine swap for a CDL engine)
« on: June 15, 2013, 01:24:10 am »
Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum, and i am need your expertise.

I currently own a mk5 GTI with an AXX engine in need of replacing. I am looking to replace my engine with a low mileage engine from on audi S3 (engine code CDl).
I am not looking to uprate the performance in my car at the moment.

I know that throughout this forum many people have done this engine swap for the S3's stronger internals.

My question to you guys is whether or not i'll be able to run my existing ko3 turbo on the S3 engine? Will my ko3 turbo actually bolt straight onto the S3 CDL engine without any messing around?
(My reason for not getting a ko4 turbo is simply because i do not have the funds for one).

Also will i need to replace the s3 injectors with my existing injectors if running it on my ko3?

If anyone can point out to me any crucial requirements of this conversion it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly  welcome to a great site

I think most of your questions will be answered promptly  and also think most things your asking can be done , Statlers in Sheffield  with have the answers if you want a definitive answer  almost immediately

It is most likely to be time consuming and costly and a head ache , Why dont you want to do a exact swap AXX  - AXX

It's an easy and straight swap, just use the S3 injectors and the K03 turbo,  your ECU will adapt to the lower compressionratio. Only thing you have to be aware of is do not run the MAP sensor from the S3 engine as your ECU won't accept it and get the car to run poorly  :drinking:

Iv just done the same. Fit your existing map sensor and g247 sensor from your axx engine to the cdl and all will be fine.

So would i actually be able to run the CDL engine with the S3 injectors along with the k03 turbo? Would this not potentially cause over-fueling?

Would the k03 turbo bolt straight onto the CDL engine without any messing around?

I'm no mechanic as VRSAlex is, but i would believe that the ECU would be able to run the S3 injectors with the K03 as it would selfadjust according to MAF and Lambdavalues??
Is that not so Alex?

Could someone please advise me on whether or not I'll be able bolt my k03 turbo along with its original manifold onto a CDL engine??

Sorry mate I just wanted to be 100% sure before going about the conversion.

I await what VRSALEX has to say about using the S3 injectors..

It would be much appreciated if someone could confirm what danishmkvgti believes about running the S3 injectors in the CDL enginee with a k03 turbo. This would save me time swapping out the injectors from my AXX engine.

Thanks

I just spoke with my mechanic Brian from BNAutoteknik, and he says that REVO stage 1 or 2 will be able to adjust the S3 injectors but he's not sure of the oem software, and has no knowledge regarding other softwaredevelopers SW  :happy2:

Thanks for looking into it for me mate. Much appreciated!

So I guess I'm best off swapping out the injectors from the S3 CDL engine for my injectors from my AXX engine then? And then running my k03 turbo on the CDL lump without having to adjust any software.

What sensor is the g247?
