The top vent was a common rattle & there is a how-to somewhere for a fix  :happy2:

I've got an annoying squeak from rear, sounds like rh hatch dampener?
it only happens when the car goes over a medium sized bump. It's like a bump meter. I've started to drive around bumps to avoid the squeak, makes the car seem like a cheap hatchback   :sad1:

I would also add that the main screws that hold the dashboard to the bulkhead are loose.

If you remove the side covers that get hidden when the front doors are closed, then there are 2 fixings each side that work themselves free over time and cause a rattle.Posidrive if I recall.

there was a VW brief about this years ago. Also there's also a fix for the top dash rattle, underneath the air diffuser , where if you wedge a small wedge under the diffuser housing, it stops the dash from creaking. Again a brief or fix was on ukmkiv's website if I recall.

Both the above issues still to this day in my 2007 have zero rattles to date

I Have one in the centre dash top vent, it seems to get worse when it's a warm sunny day

I used stuff similar to this to cure the centre top dash vent rattle.

Can you give us some idea of where you placed them?

Everywhere lol. Cut strips/pads and stuck them anywhere there is plastic on plastic contact pretty much. You can replicate the squeak from this area just by pressing down on it - after you've treated it, it should not make a sound. HTH.
