Airbag fault light?

I've been ploughing through a load of jobs on my Mk5 this morning, only to have this put a spanner in the works (especially as it's getting MOTed next week)

At first I thought I'd pulled the wrong fuse when wiring the stereo (I'm using a fuse tap). But I checked back to a photo I took of the fusebox a few weeks ago, and everything is exactly as it was (plus the I'm now wired off the cigarette lighter fuse, verified with a multimeter).

I replaced the seats to GTi tartan ones a couple of months ago, but there weren't being adjusted at the time of the light appearing. I've checked the connectors underneath, and they seem to be in place.

What on earth could have caused this? I'm assuming this is gonna cause some hassle come MOT time

I just found this post in an old thread:

you only get the airbag light if you turn the ignition on with a component disconnected in the airbag system, it is very sensitive to changed resistances and throws a warning light which usually stays on and can only go out with a vagcom or equivalent to reset it. It reads the changed resistance as a fault. the strange thing in this instance is that it reset itself.

I know, I know all about it and still made a noob error of turning on the ignition with a component disconnected!!

This is probably what I've done...pulled the airbag fuse with the ignition on. Is a VAGCOM reset my only option?

Pretty much unless you want to visit the dealer.
If you state where you're located then someone with a vcds cable on here may just be able to sort you out.

I'm planning on getting the MOT and interim service done at the main dealer anyway (I would never normally, but the car has full VWSH up till now)

Should a code reset be part of the service, or are they likely to sting me for £50+ for 1/2hr of VAGCOM time?

Where are you based Rob? look at the vag com thread to see if someone local for you to reset it.
