Who knows about Throttle Bodies?
« on: August 25, 2013, 07:38:36 pm »
Looks like I may need a TB.  EPC light on and following logged error:

000546 - Angle Sensor 2 for Throttle (G188): Signal Too Low

Thing is, it was just the other day I had an intermittment battery light on/off; thread here
Could this be related?  A dieing alternator causing electrical faults..?

As far as replacing the TB, are there any tips/diys around?  Would I be correct in thinking... in through the bottom, remove TB pipe, then off with the connectors and 4x bolts..?  Do you have to recalibrate with VCDS afterwards?

Loads of threads about it. You deffo need a new one though. Bit of a fiddle to fit. Make sure you get a brand new one not a used one.

Thanks, I hear what your saying about a new one but I could get 10x used ones for the price on one new - I feel that's there's something else a miss lately, with random errors from MAF / Alternator / DV... think I'll grab a used one, get it through it's MOT and go from there, if it comes up again I'll look at a new one.

This will be about the 4th electrical thing I've replaced recently, from cruise control, wiper motor and mech, drivers side window motor and switches.... something clearly not right.
Not to mention offside CV :sad1:

Would the EPC light fail an MOT with these new regs?

Yes, all warning lights must extinguish themselves on starting.
Without traction power is nothing!

Super, had a feeling that was the case.

Seems quite a few American Mk5 owners are running a ground cable from TB to chassis or neg. terminal... Is this worth doing on the new TB, or is it already grounded indirectly through part connection?
