RCD 300 IPod problem

Hi I recently got a MK5 with a RCD 300 hu and an iPod connector in the centre consol

I have no cd in the hu and when I plug in the iPod/iPhone/Itouch if I press CD and it just beeps and says no disc. Pressing CD twice has no effect.

All of the devices will begin charging and continue playing the track so it appears the devices are getting power ok.

Is there a set up required or am I doing something stupid?!


*Update - tried my iPhone this morning, started by playing a track through the phones speaker, plugged it into the dock and it stopped playing through the speaker but kept playing the track so the phone knows its connected to a device.

Havnt a clue, surely it must be ok if the devices are charging and recognising they are connected to a device?

I've just fitted (today) this to MY2005 GTI with a lowly RCD300 and Autochanger in the arm rest. 

It plays the tracks through the car speakers via the CD button, changes track and volume via the RCD300.  Using an iPod Nano (the tiny one with the touch screen).
Using an extension works fine too.

Sorry I know this doesn't help you.  I'd say get it scanned, perhaps your HU is foobarred :(

The only reason it would say No CD is because it has not detected the iPod is plugged in. Verify both the connections to the head unit (it has to "snap" in place with the locking tab) and the connection from the HU to the iPod box.

Did you earth it as well? That wouldn't work if you didn't. You can earth it on the radio itself if you so desire or you can wire it to a switched earth (I think one of the wires in the loom is one of those).

To update;

Had the car on vagcom last night and it appears the coding was wrongly input by VW when the ipod lead was added.

The code ended in +2 instead of +3.


Only issue now is a slight interference noise so im going to trace the earth and check it as I think its a grounding problem.

The coding won't effect the working of the CD player, it would just throw a fault code when you scanned it. Mine was not coded when fitted.

It didnt affect the working of the cd player 

It affected the fact the CD player didnt know there was a cd charger/ipod connected to it.

Yes that's what I meant sorry.
The coding does not (or did not on my car at least) effect the functionality of the "CD changer" menu (pressing CD twice). Before I had VCDS my coding was wrong and was giving an error code but the iPod kit worked fine.

I have this exact same issue (ipod dock charging but not showing up on headunit), did you resolve it OP?

Are you using a genuine apple cable? Sometimes with these aftermarket cables it will charge but not recognise for audio connection.

I'm not using a cable, I'm plugging a bluetooth adapter into it via a voltage converter. Unfortunately I don't have an ipod of that generation to test with directly!
