Short shift for MK5 non DSG
Janner_Sy:
piece of p*ss mike. take you intake out, battery can stay where it is, no need to move it. you'll be able to access the adjustment nut from the top,
if not take the linkages off. (make sure your in neutral, plus put a nail in the linkage below your gear stick for when it is tighten it up) the left hand linkage has a circular circlip, slide that off and it'll pop up, the right hand linkage is a pain in the ass, i got mine off by sliding needle nose pliers behind and levering it out.
should be easy for a fitter like yourself, shouldnt be taking hints off a sparky mate, lol  :P
i can show you on PDF if need be, or if it can wait until chatham im there on from 11th and ill sort it for you.

LOL, I still am to this day! Been mailed a potential solution today, and hopefully will be able to report back on Sunday evening whether it has actually worked!!
Yeah the bolt that adjusts the throw could be loose, or even the main bolt that holds the whole shifter assembly down to the gearbox. That sounds more likely to me....
The big bolt, you can't miss it, its the one in the centre of both shifter arms, try to see if it is all tight!
Janner_Sy:
cant see it being the centre bolt. that shaft has splines on it,
