Oil and taking a while to cool down

Hi all,

Took the GTI on a weekend to Scarborough (weekend just gone)

About 20 miles away from destination, I noticed that the oil light was on the dash (red one)

Pulled over, checked, and sure enough, was low on oil.

Drove for another 2 miles or so and called into a garage who supplied me with some oil. Topped her up (around a litres worth) and on we went, oil light off.

I've noticed today, after a short drive home, and a little run around with my little one, that the side panels (just up from the lights) are red hot, when the bonnet is more or less stone cold.

This is bothering me now. I've just been out again, after around 3 hours of me switching off, and they're still warm.

Any ideas/help as I'm pretty concerned

I wouldn't worry it's humid outside even after I jump in to car after leaving it a while the gauge says oil is still hot, Diffrent if ur fan was constantly on I wouldn't worry.

It's not just the oil that's hot though, the sides of the bonnet are red hot, but the centre of the bonnet is more or less stone cold?!

I'd suggest you check your oil more often rather than waiting for the light to tell you it's dangerously low. Yours obviously uses a little so worth checking every month. Low oil could starve the turbo which isn't a cheap fix

Minimum to maximum on the dipstick is 1 litre so you could put the whole 1 litre bottle in there

I'm about half way up the middle bit on the 'dip stick' so guess i could wack a little more in there.
