Opinion on aux in and ipod interface
« on: June 19, 2013, 11:24:18 pm »
Hi guys new to the forum and have an ice question.

Car is a 2008 Golf Match. I'm not sure which stereo it is but its black with silver buttons and says "mp3" just above the CD slot.

It has factory ipod control fitted in the armrest but I'd like to add an auxiliary input. I would like to retain the ipod control as well.

What is the best product that will give me an aux port whilst retaining factory ipod control or has both ipod control and aux input but something I can fit in place of the factory ipod in the armrest?

Do densions, connetcs2 anyone else do something that solves my problem?

Thanks

From the description it sounds like your existing radio is one of the later versions of the RCD300 which has the ability to play mp3 format files from a CD. The iPod control that you've got will probably be the earlier iPod prep kit which works by plugging into the CD changer socket on the back of the radio. This same socket should have some empty pins with no wires in them, a couple of these will be for connecting an aux input. If you take the radio out there will be a sticker on the top which will identify which pins are the aux pins. You then just need to add an aux plug and wire it to these pins. Not all RCD300s have the aux pins identified on the label so you need to check to see if yours does. I'm guessing it will have as it's one of the later versions.

If you want to buy an off the shelf kit then you need to buy one which lets you retain the iPod kit. Most of the kits also use the CD changer input to connect to the radio so you need a kit which allows you to plug the iPod prep kit into it otherwise you will loose your existing iPod connection.

Ok I think that bit makes sense to me.  I am sure I have somewhere seen a kit that says it enables you to keep factory fitted cd changer and I guess in my case that should allow me to keep factory ipod.

Anybody know a kit for aux in that allows this?

Thanks
