Ed 30 Jacking location
« on: November 30, 2008, 03:49:34 pm »
Hi
Can anyone tell me the correct location to use a trolley Jack at the front of my golf to enable removal of the front wheel please?
There is a suitable location under the rear wishbone but the front appears less obvious
Thanks

You can use the proper jacking location on the Sill but you need to put a piece of wood or similar on the jack.

If your trolley will go far enough under then you can use the aluminium 'console' mounting.

Thanks for the reply..............yes I did consider the sill but just a bit afraid of the sill flange folding over under the weight.  :scared:
Not being able to compress the wishbone does mean the car needs to go a far bit higher to get the wheel off the ground which is tricky in the confines of my garage. I think I will have a look at your final suggestion.

The sill is absolutely fine, it's the proper place.

When dealers etc lift your car it is lifted on the sill.

If you do alot of jacking up of your car then perhaps you should consider installing some lift pads.

If you are going to get them, go to an Audi dealer as the VW computer won't let you order them even though they are listed on the screen.

Picked up 4 pairs from local Audi dealer today.  :happy2:
Apart from needing to use a little Fairy liquid and a trolley jack to squeeze them in the hole all fitted easily!
Thanks again
