the 'new' tab and email links.....
« on: August 07, 2009, 10:11:38 pm »
Could you have the board setting adjusted so when you either click the link to a thread in an email or click the 'new' tab it actually goes to that post not just to the page the post is on ??

Thanks

Tom

It does work like this but it depends on how it's linked.

Take the subscription/new post emails, these are setup so they take you to the newest unread post. (the url includes the command - ?topic=6725.new;topicseen#new).

However if you have another link that was taken directly from a page (i.e. copy and paste) on the forum this will go to the first page of the thread.

The only way to always show the latest post is to change the default order to show newest posts first which isn't something I personally feel is the right way to do it.

Let me know if I have misunderstood your question  :happy2:

For example, i clicked the link in the email sent to me informing me of your reply.
I click it, then it opens a new tab in firefox, but it went to my post not to your post, i had to manually scroll down

It's the same when i click the 'new' button also

Is it a problem my end, i don';t think it is as my laptops fine on every other site i run on.
I have just reformatted it, and it's the same as previous

Is it an issue my end ?

Taking your example when I clicked on the email notification it took me to your reply, however as the page is loading it did show the first post for a fraction of a second then moved down to your reply.

I sometimes get this on my iPhone when the thread has lots of pictures but otherwise haven't had an issue with this TBH

I know what your saying about the picture loading thing, and thats not the problem i'm refering to

I've just been trying the 'new' tab and thats working fine now - oldly enough lol

But the email thing, just clicked it to read your reply - nope, just stays at the top of the page !

I can't think of anything that i need to adjust, can you ?
I've checked 6 or 7 other forums, one of which is also a SMF board, that seems to be ok

Odd huh ? !

It's very strange as it's not something I can adjust as the emails use the code to link to the newest unread post by default.

I will do some investigation and see what I can find out  :happy2:
