Mk5 GTi or Edition 30??
« on: June 21, 2013, 03:25:07 pm »
Hi All

I'm currently driving a Mk2 Leon Cupra but want to switch to a Mk5 Golf GTi but can't decide on weather to go for a standard GTi or Edition 30?

I know that a Standard GTi comes with a K03 Turbo and the edition 30 comes with a K04 Turbo but still don't know what to pick

Any advice is most welcome!

Cheers Ryan

Always the Ed30.  After driving both back to back for a year or so the Ed30 is harder, better, faster, stronger.

I test drove numerous gti's then decided to up my budget and get an edition :happy2:

I knew that if I had the Gti I'd have only kicked myself 6 months down the line

K03 for lagless motoring.  They produce similar torque at stage 1, so will depend on whether you drive you car regularly past 4k.

I could have got an ED30 but decided to buy based on condition. I looked at 3 ED30s, and all of them had some problems. I found a recovery receipt for one where it had been run out of oil on a motorway. Another had some major accident damage. That and the interior of the edition 30 was a bit off for me so I went for a gti with leather that hadn't been battered. if you get bored just throw a k04 on at a later date.

I'd have thought the swap from a Leon Cupra to a Mk5 GTI of any variety wouldn't be worth the bother given the similar underpinnings.

I would have thought the main difference would have been in the ride as the leon fr is known for a hard ride. used to  feel everything when driving my brothers leon

Gotta agree with this. I wanted an Ed30, but all the ones I viewed were in a pretty poor state and I didn't fancy a long wait of searching to find the right one. So decided to opt for a decent GTI and add the K04  :happy2:

I guess it depends on they type of driving you plan on doing?

I have a GTI and I'm rarely over 3.5k of revs and it more than fast enough for me!

Also did the same, looked at a few Edition 30s and they all seemed to have been 'well used'.

Where as it's easier to find a good GTI as most (not all) seem to have been driven as a normal car rather than a hot hatch.
