My 1.9tdi UPDATE
« on: June 22, 2013, 08:42:05 pm »
Hi folks, i bought my first car a few months ago and decided to get a mk5 1.9tdi and i love it.

here's what it looked like when i had it.

After looking around on this forum i decided i wanted the gti front so thats what came next ( i know i dont have a front splitter but thats coming!!)

Then i went and got my bonnet and roof done in black vinyl

Next was my wheels, fox fx004

Things to go onto it next are

rieger front splitter

rieger side skirts

r32 style rear bumper without exhaust cut outs.

they will all be getting fitted on 15.07.13 and i cant wait :)

also planning on:

remap
coilovers
window tints
rear wiper delete
boot pop mod

is there anything else i should be thinking about getting let me know!!!!

Welcome to the forum from a gttdi owner..Your car modding coming along nice- but not sure on the black strips but if you like it that is what counts  :happy2:
Bigger brakes you will need after the remap

Cheers :) I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the vinyl on the bonnet, I can't make my mind up. So what brakes should I be looking for gti ones ?

Not a fan of the vinyl but it's your car, your choice. As for the brakes I've just upgraded to the S3 setup which needs the hubs, carriers and suspension to be changed also. This also applies to the GTi brakes so bear in mind when buying coilovers.

Had a 1.9 myself for a couple of years.

:) They are good motors.

Personally don't like the black vinyl but hey it's your car. I would get it lowered next otherwise it would look odd with the other bits and pieces you have done :)

Brakes require changing the hubs as mentioned, did this on my old car as well  :happy2:
If you want any advice let me know as I got to know these cars and engines very well.

The trouble you will have is the gti and r32 ones won't fit the 1.9 hub you have to change them to the gttdi ones but it can turn out to be expensive as well unless you get them from a breakers..Some members on here with the 1.9 can advice  you what better brakes they have up graded to

Well that depends on your budget. If you just want to get lower then buy some JOMs for £180 but you can also buy Apex RDX or APs for around £400.
Buy the best suspension you can afford

You can read about my R32 brake conversion here.

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/426503/3292229.aspx#3292229

You need the following

Discs
Pads
Calipers
Carriers
Front Hubs 55mm (both)
Brake Lines coming from front Caliper.
55mm strut adaptors for coilovers or 55mm front struts.

Ebay about 2 years ago now. A guy had about 12 sets and I knew immediately I wanted them.

Didn't realise until about 6 months ago they are rare as rocking horse poo! Only place you can buy them is Ebay.de for around £500.

I was looking into changing my brakes but didn't in the end ...I spoke to vrs northampton they brake vw's and modify them ...they had a couple of sets of standard 2.0tdi front brake set ups ie calipers
Carriers
55mm hubs
Discs
All used but perfectly serviceable so everything you need for conversion for £100 inc postage ...yes these aren't 312mm gti brakes but it would get you the hub set up so you could run 55mm struts ...but alot of the cheaper coilovers like jom are 50mm standard and come with a sleave to take it up to 55mm so you could get a set then when the brakes of your choice turn up you can get them then

That depends on where you buy things from... I'd budget around £500
