car hard to start occasionally
« on: June 21, 2013, 04:41:42 pm »
I've just swapped my edition 30 for an 09 GTi mk6.

It has an problem in that occasionally it is hard to start, just cranking over.

The exhaust sytem warning light (orange engine symbol) came on the other day. I took it to a friends garage who has a Snap on tools code reader. It said intermittent or low fuel pressure in fuel rail.

He cleared the code, but the slow starting issue remains. I've had a look on the net, and it could be one of several things. Any ideas on how to narrow it down a little chaps?

I have no access to a VCDS unit.    :sad1:

You'll need vcds to see what your fuel pressure is doing. This would give you a better understanding if the problem is within the fuel pressure.

Could be something silly like fuel filter, or sensor.

Its only done 40k, but I have just bought a new fuel filter, see if that helps.

Most of the time its perfect, just occasionally it cranks for 10 secs or so then when it starts its lumpy for a couple of seconds. My stage 1 eddy always started and went like the clappers....

The mk6 always starts (eventually) but feels much more planted though.

Have you checked the voltage of the battery?

Where are you located? have you looked on the VCDS list to see if anyone is local to you. I am in Kent and own VCDS.
