MK7 GTi.....driven!
« on: June 25, 2013, 01:12:48 pm »
Last night, it was my good fortune of having 45mins of unrestricted fun in the new mk7 GTi!
In fabulous dark blue the manual car with the winter pack, sat nav and DCC....it looks so good, purposeful, aggressive and lower than previous versions. Xenons and LED's outside and LED's everywhere inside give the car a modern and striking look!
Driving it is a revaluation compared to my mk5, quick, comfortable and so quite when cruising at speed....it still makes a nice noise when driving hard but is more than acceptable when not.
Excellent handling with very little understeer.....it is very is very nimble and makes my mk5 seem very heavy.
I just love the design, there are so many details which are missed with just a casual glance!
It left me with no doubt as to what my next car is going to be....all it needed were 2 extra doors and DSG and it would be perfect.
If you get the opportunity to have a go.....TAKE IT!

That is all.

No performance pack I'm afraid. And I have to admit, I was wondering the entire time how much difference it would make!
In truth, I never once thought "it needs bigger brakes" but know it could be made more powerful quite easily and then they would come in handy. So I guess I would have it,  would even swap the trick suspension for it!

They do look nice and appear to be an evolutionary step forward...but the thick end of £30k when specced??
If my budget stretched that far I'd have a hard job justifying it in favour of the 1 series M car that I could buy with that money.  :driver:

My local dealer has a Tornado Red 5dr Mk7 GTI in at the moment. Looks ok, still getting used to it.

Sales chap was trying to get me to have a go and was giving it the whole sales pitch about "super low" interest rates, "your car as the deposit" blah blah blah and all for less than £300 a month. I declined and drove off in my poor man's Golf that costs me nothing each month.

I was at a dealer and he said he can sell a mk5 gti in a heartbeat. Didn't really make me want to part with mine! In fairness he didn't try the hard sell at all, just gave me a brochure. He also told me it's not a particularly difficult job selling Golfs!

I wouldn't quite call your car that MC - it looks better than new.

Specced one up at £36k, sorry to say there is a lot of alternatives at that price, although it does seem like a genuine step forward in development.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Thanks PJ.

My cars feels cheap when you can buy 3 Mk5 Edition 30's for less than the price of a Mk7 Golf, £30k for a hot hatch is a lot of money in my book.

that's bonkers..

Putting your car down as a deposit is all well and good. £220 a month is good valve , but having that choice at the end of the pcp deal, to either pay up the 15k, hand the car back after paying for it for all those years, and worse still add to your debts by having to the do another finance agreement ..

As much as I'd love a mk7 GTi, I wouldn't put myself in all that debt ...
