iPod dock
« on: June 25, 2013, 06:56:56 pm »
Looking for a bit of help

I have the factory fit iPod dock in the armrest of my 58 reg Pirelli GTi but do not have an iPod of any description.

I do however have an iPad but I cannot get it to play music in the car when I plug it in using an extension cable.

Do you know if this is actually possible with an iPad or does the car only recognise an iPod

The iPad comes up with a message saying something like 'device connected' but the screen is locked and the stereo just keeps playing from the CD source or the radio. It does not recognise the iPad is connected at all

I have connected a friends iPod before so I know the connection works

Anyone else tried this

Thanks

iirc you have to press the cd button twice to switch to the ipod interface. As to if it'll work with an iPad, I don't know.
Without traction power is nothing!

I haven't tried it myself, but perhaps get the iPad playing a track before connecting.

I've got an iPad 2 that I can test tomorrow... my iPod Nano 6th gen works fine - haven't tried iPhone 5 or iPad 4 via adaptor.

Ok was not aware about pressing the CD button twice so will try that

Scotty - let me know how you get on and I will also try the CD button thing above

I tried getting the iPad to play a track before connecting but that did not work earlier either

It works  :happy2:

Pressed the CD button twice and up popped CD one to six on the display. The first five seem to be the first five playlists on the iPad and the sixth seems to be a random selection of the rest of the tracks on the iPad. I think I read somewhere it is a random 99 tracks

The only downside is that you cannot control anything above from the iPad itself when it is plugged into the car

Thank you all for your quick and friendly advice as usual - great forum :happy2:
