Yea, gearbox service/recon is what's needed... Where abouts you too bud?

Defo stay away from eBay, & either have your box done or give them yours for one that's already reconditioned.

Let me know how u get on :)

I'm taking it to my local mechanic for a good road test tomorrow to see if we can work out the issue. The bizarre thing was that today driving around was ok, or at least less noticeable !

Shall keep you up to date folks.

Had mine took out on a few road tests, most think that 5th gear is rubbing up against something but all commented that theres no power loss or ill effects when driving so i'm driving it still at the minute lol

So have had my motor out on a road test this morning, some fairly good news, not looking like the gearbox !

My mechanic seems to think it's the Air Flow Meter, I am assuming this is the MAF ? He said that its still pulling but doesn't feel like its getting full boost / fuel hence why it feels down on power a tad, but he's confident it's not mechanical eg the box or clutch

Said he needs to test the Air Flow Meter with a oscilloscope ? Totally beyond me! This would be aprox £30 + vat, if it is knackerd he reckons about £100-150 for a new meter

Just thought I would update y'all

Have you ruled out the DV? IF not, grab a Rev G from VW about £30 iirc... easy change if the car is in the air (I did mine through the wheel arch, which is a little more time consuming but much nicer to get to the top allen)... even easier on K04 in the engine bay.

Anyone around your parts that can scan with VCDS?  Should show if there's a MAF issue.

I've got a dirty diesel here buddy :) otherwise I would be looking at DV's ;) I've got a fair amount of trust in my mechanic, he's not been wrong yet on my car or family cars so yeh :P

Vcds is good idea though !

Doh, should really read the OP, lol - When I fitted a new CAI I grabbed a second hand MAF in fear that I might screw mine up, I used it, and it's be all good for about 6 months now.  If you get one from eBay usually about £30 or so, you can always claim if it's knackered. Good luck with finding a solution. :happy2:
