Fading Cluster
« on: July 01, 2013, 10:26:51 am »
Morning All,

I had a Highline cluster fitted into my TDI a couple of months back.. all was well until the weekend when the LCD display started fading all of a sudden. A quick google search reveals hot weather affects it sometimes?

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=284384

The LCD is still readable, however it has distinctive faint sections on the screen.

I was wondering what the best soloution is apart from replacing the cluster (its a 972 and I have a 55 TDI) as I dont want to have to get all coded up again.

Can the LCD be replaced? Any idea where I can get the screen from?

Would red LCD screens from diff vag clusters fit into the existing 972 highline?

Any help would be appreciated  :happy2:

this happens on my car too, I have a midline currently and it only happens in hot weather.

If its really bad where its unreadable, then may have to get a new cluster.

If you need one, I have one currently for sale on ebay.

Thanks for heads up Raz..

Lol im sure ive seen your cluster on ebay earlier on today.

Realistically im wanting to avoid replacing the whole cluster and im looking to see if it would be possible to potentially source a LCD or a cheap highline cluster and get the screens swapped over.

Anyone know if any other vag cluster LCDs would fit on a MK5?

Eddie is selling a cheap petrol highline cluster. Im not sure how good you are with electronics but it does look a bit fiddly changing the screen around.
