Dexron III oil
« on: July 03, 2013, 06:53:15 pm »
hi guys,

been having some issues with my gearbox and have had it re-built. I questioned with the workshop what type of oil they put in it and they told me they use Dexron III which is their recomended oil for this gearbox.

I've done a quick google search, as I've never heard of Dexron, and they only results I've found is that its for GM gearboxes.

Last time I check PD170s needed 5W/40 (VW505 00). Will Dexron screw up my car??

Dexron is a  well known gearbox oil. I think usually provided for 'after market'. Its not apparently recommended for VW boxes as VW oils are very specific.
Someone out there will prob say different, but you are normally wise to stick to VW spec oils.
