My 225s on the 8J are absolutely fine, and look completely normal and not stretched.

I know that everyone running the TD's (which are also 8J) on this forum are running the 225 tyre with no problems.

out of  interest TC what is the widest tyre you can put onto a 7.5, presumably 235 is the maximum

Jonny C is the man for this info he really knows his onions about contact patches and tyre wall stuff. I think it would depend on what you planned to do in the car and the type of tyre. There must become a point were the extra grip from more contact gets negated by what yout doing to the tyre wall.

I think a 235 has a bigger rolling radius, so you may encounter a bit of an issue there, with you being so low, Robin.

An ET48 on an 8" rim, will mean it stick out 9mm further than your Monzas. 3mm for the change in offset and 6mm for the 1/4 of an inch added to either side of the barrel.

However, a 225 will only be affected by slightly changing the position of the tyrewall closest to the rim, as it gets towards the tread, it'll still be a 225's width, remember. So in reality you're still only 3mm further out, increasing to 9mm the further you compress the suspension. Make sense?

This size, offset & tyre combo is perfect IMO.
Sideways yo!

i dont understand how a 235 wide tyre can have a bigger rolling radius than a 225 wide tyre, when the aspect ratio is stil going to be 40. the aspect ratio surely is the only bit that can change the rolling radius of a tyre.

....The set up Mark Farmer did me at VWR works perfectly - I follow the If it works, don't mend it! school of thought. So I'll take your advice and stick to 225.

....Sort of makes sense (just about to my brain) but I greatly respect your advice on many car related subjects.

....Your opinion on wheels etc is also one I take notice of.  :drinking: (as highly recommended by TC)

So, I'm looking for a 18x8 | ET48 | 225/40R18 combo so I can leave my suspension in its sweet spot.

Cheers, guys  :drinking: - This forum is soooo good!

....That's the bottom line :happy2:. Achieving the right combo and balance.

In my case it's 'Fast Road' and only occasional 'track'.

The aspect ratio is a percentage of the width of the tyre.

Therefore a 225/40 tyre means the sidewall is 40% of the width of the tyre = 90mm
A 235/40 tyre will have a marginally higher rolling radius with the sidewall being 40% of 235 = 94mm.

Its only slight, but does make a difference.

yes, people think the profile number is a measurement as in 40 profile is 40mm, but as Deako says its a percentage of the tyre width, which is in mm's, called the aspect ratio :happy2:

Ah, so the 'R' in 225/40R18 stands for Rolling Radius %?
