Which Remap?
« on: July 08, 2013, 09:36:34 pm »
Hello all,

I know this will be tricky as most people only get one remap on their car but I'm undecided with who to have remap my R? I've got all the hardware on the car to go stg 2+ and was originally looking to go with APR due to the switchable maps through the cruise control, as the missus still drives the car and I could put it back to stock map when she's going to be using it but as I understand it they don't offer any DSG mapping to compliment the ecu map so I thought I may be doing myself a disservice by not getting the DSG mapped too? The other thing is APR currently have their summer sale on and with 20% off it makes their map a decent amount cheaper than it was going to be so should I definitley get the DSG mapped along with the ECU?

I started to look elsewhere and GIAC have caught my attention, via Statllers in Sheffield, as they offer both ECU and DSG maps aswell as being able to switch maps through their flash loader, and I've been reading Hurdy's thread and he seems to be getting some impressive performance from his R with their map, although I haven't got any plans to run water-meth anytime soon. The thing is I haven't really heard many other people's reviews and experiences of their maps and afterservice so wondered if anyone could help me make my mind up? Also does anyone know roughly how much Statllers would charge for both an ECU and DSG map?

Haven't really looked at Revo as I drove a Revo car a while ago, although it wasn't a Golf R, and I didn't like the way the power was delivered, seemed to be nothing and then an almighty hit as the boost came in, whereas I'd prefer a more linear delivery, although I'm open to being told I'm wrong as well as any other companies that I may not have mentioned?!

Any opinions welcome..........

Edit: Just realised this should have been in the performance section, oops  :ashamed:

If your local to Statllers then go for it  :happy2:

Steve Jn is a knowledgable bloke and certainly won't rip you off. I think your best paying them a visit - mention Hurdy as your inspiration, And discuss prices face to face.

GIAC seem to be up there with R-Tech for pushing the capabilities of the TFSI and seeing Hurdy's run the 1/4 mile on Sunday, you can't doubt their expertise with tuning.  :drinking:

May be worth visiting the "R Forum" for more advice and inspiration

Thanks for the reply, I'm not exactly local to Statllers but it's close enough.

I've been trying to get on the R forum for ages but for some reason my account just doesn't seem to get approval, tried emailing admin and nothing seems to happen, I can go on and read but can't post anything which is frustrating!

Even though you said your not too keen on Revo, they would most likely match the APR offer if you asked. Im sure of it. They do a linear throttle map to make things smoother. I've never tried it. I have a Revo S2+ ED30 and cant fault it, but I have never been out in another car to compare.

No reason, as said, I'm open to suggestions, just quite like the idea of the switchable maps and don't know if this is something that R-Tech offer?!

Rtech if your in the midlands or statlers for some GIAC goodness if your up north is my votes .

Your mad to consider spending £500 for Revo.. RTech will give you a properly tuned and set up car for a heck of a lot less money.

Or think of it another way, it will give a couple hundred pound change to spend on more mods to support your Customised remap.

In this weather a larger intercooler will give you another 10% gains

Something I'm saving for...

Are you sure on that as I queried this with them and they told me I would need to go back to them if I need to reset the map, so was under the impression only one file is stored.

To flash back to stock you would have to go to them, or your local VW dealer.

He does switchable through a sequence of pedal presses IIRC  :happy2: - sounds crazy but it works

How much is a r-tech?

I was all for getting a revo map, but been looking at apr as like the idea of being able to use cruise to switch.

And they both seem to be around £480 currently in the sale.
