Ive got a 56 golf gti and thinking if updating the stereo to a rns510 ver c. Can I just update without updating the can bus. All the ads on ebay say no batttery drain which I understand normally happens.

Hope somebody can help

The ones on ebay which say no battery drain will have a modified firmware on it so you should be ok. You can update the canbus if you want and that will allow you to have the latest firmware and also keeps you prepped for the future if you want to do other things to the car.
