AUX Input For RCD300
« on: July 10, 2013, 02:48:45 pm »
I'm a complete novice and this is my first car, so any help would be appreciated.

My stereo is an RCD300 (I think.... photo below)

Basically, I want to add an aux input to this for my phone/mp3 player.  What is the easiest way to do this?  Cost isn't really an issue, but I'd like to be able to do it myself to save taking the car to a garage.

I found this on another post http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=4&cat=0&page=1 , would this do the job?

Also I have no idea where to run the wires to?  Ideally I'd like the aux cable somewhere near the gearstick or in the glovebox.

Go easy on me, I really have no idea what I'm doing so don't use too much technical jargon!  Any help would be great!

Yes this is an RCD300 head unit, one of the later ones with silver buttons but without the ability to play mp3 CDs (they say mp3 on the front above the screen). The device you've found will add iPod capability and an aux in. If you only want aux then there are other devices which work exactly the same but are cheaper. Connects2 is a manufacturer that others have mentioned - there's loads on eBay for about £35.

All these systems work by fooling the head unit into thinking an external CD changer is fitted. You will therefore access the device by pressing the CD button twice.

Although this guide is for how to change the head unit, follow steps 1 to 7 in the "Installation" section to access the back of your existing head unit so you can plug in the new aux input.

Once you've got the radio out you'll be able to work out a route to get your aux lead out to the glovebox or by the gear stick.

I've read through that and watched  a video, seems straight forward enough.  Thanks for your help  :happy2:

I'm after an adaptor that i can connect to via bluetooth as well as aux, could only find the xcarlink one.  Anyone know of any cheaper ones?

Hi,

I just fitted one of the Connects2 myself 2 days ago to the same radio above (which i got off Ebay for around £31) Fired it in and grounded the black cable and happy days it works! Great sound and quality also would recommend this to everyone with the same radio! Took me around 30 mins, few Torx 20 screws. Easy enough just dont break anything  :signLOL:
