Rust on sill but not the usual place?
« on: July 11, 2013, 09:22:27 am »
Just noticed this morning as I got out of the car that there is a small bubble of rust developing on the top face of the sill about half way back. Has anyone else had this on theirs?

Seems a strange place as once the door is closed there's no way to get a stone chip so I guess it must be coming from underneath the paint rather than because the paint has been compromised.

If the rust is where I think you mean then the most likely cause of damage is from people getting in and out of the car and grit on their shoes damaging the paint. I had a few marks showing on mine where this had happened. It's worth taking it in to the dealers to see if they'll repair it under warranty but I'd expect them to only offer a "good will gesture" contribution towards the repair cost.

Had this issue on the 07 Leon, in on the drivers side sill, eventually Seat agreed to correct it via goodwill and it is was fixed after about 6 weeks following the initial enquiry.

Keeping my eyes glued to the ED30 and hoping i dont see any.

I've got this on the door shut on the seal, its zinc separation apparently and VW are paying for 75% towards it to repair both seals, its been approved I'm just waiting back for a quote and will get a courtesy car either new golf or beetle

How bad are these cars at rusting , its like the 70s all over again! I saw a basic 05 plate Mk5 on Saturday which had about 3 feet of rust bubbles all along the bottom of the passenger door , it looked shocking.
