My new mk5 Bit more progress 12.08.13
« on: July 14, 2013, 08:45:21 am »
Hi guys,
I thought I should say hello as I've just picked up another mk5 TDI and will be using this forum a lot more now.

Picked this up in pretty much standard condition bar the wheels complete with rotten wing.

So far I've sorted the rust, chucked on the 18's after a home refurb, sorted the heater blower, cleaned and painted all the calipers and replaced the scubby looking headlight switch for a new one and fitted the missing headlight rubber grommet, repaired a window regulator and enjoyed it.

Then I sorted out the badging.

Carbon wrapped front

And a new 3D carbon wrapped rear with colour coded background.

I thought I would tint the headlights too but I wasn't happy with them , far too dark, so I peeled it all off again.

How it sits for now.

Today I will stick on the new wheel badges and fit the new handle.

Pretty please with it so far though.

Got a little more progress today, I ordered a new set of GTI skirts from TPS the other day and managed to get them fitted after work.

Was an easy job but I was a little nervous when fitting as you need to screw on a fixing strip either side which has 9 bolts, so it was a case of measure, check, measure, check and go for it.

here's the results anyhoo, I'm rather pleased with it.

New headlights time.
Wasn't going to bother just yet but I got a second pair of headlights and thought it was worth trying the Joey mod.

 Started like this

Then a wee while later, something like this

Sealed up nice and tight again and onto the car

For anyone interested don't try to Joey mod unless your really keen, its an utter ballache of a job.

thanks Melkiy  :happy2:

Well a little bit of sanding, and painting and we now have these done.

And the finished items fitted back on

really pleased with the match as I was a bit worried it would be off, I needn't have worried, it is just spot on.
