Cracked the sump help needed
« on: July 18, 2013, 10:41:51 pm »
Cracked the sump on my car tonight. Engine is fine as I turned it off straight away. Anyone know how much a new one is or if mine can be fixed

Check this (DE) or this (USA, shipping + customs might increase final price).  :happy2:

Wow you must have been unlucky to crack a sump! They sit really high out of the way!

A metal skip pan would be better...
Without traction power is nothing!

That would also work.
But the TDI undertray is £20 and offers plenty of protection and decreases noise as well so it's a win-win!

The sump is really easy to remove and refit. Do it yourself. If you don't have one already buy the Halfords professional toolkit  that's normally £200 (but always up for sale for £99.99).

Even with the cost of the oil, filter, and sealant, it's cheaper than paying VW to do it and you've then invested in some tools for the future.

removing the sump is outlined here in a guide I did for changing the oil pickup.

Tfsi sumps are 130 plus vat atm. Tsi sumps are steel so I guess a bit cheaper.
