Recommendations - Air Intakes
« on: July 30, 2013, 10:41:43 pm »
Hi guys,

Just a week into ownership so I need some advice;
I'm looking to upgrade the air intake, so can you give me some pointers on the good/bad and rough idea on prices?

Any links greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Recently posted this, so here you are.........

Check out Forge Motorsport for their Twintake, reviewed on the forum by RR (dated 2009)

Or the ITG Maxogen, reviewed by the Boss man (SteveP) (dated 2009)

Or the Volant system, new (ish) system from the US of A (dated 2012)

The REVO CAI is one of the best, no review on here, but here's a link to their site....

The APR one is also the VWR one IIRC. Their info....

And an old thread about Panel Filters (dated 2009)

Very useful Info on all the above, via forum member john_o (dated 2009)

And that "how to" on modified engine cover..

Price wise, EVOMS is about £300. Forge, APR/VWR, ITG and REVO CAI's are all around £400+ and a decent panel filter is £30+.

Personally I'd go with the REVO one.  :happy2:

Don't forget BSH true seal intake, I paid £200 for mine. Only downside I have seen at the moment is lack of a heat shield.

OP if you haven't done any other mods yet then spend the cash on a remap first. A much better value for money mod :happy2:

You wont see much benefit from a CAI on a standard car.

Is there a lot of difference with map results when an air intake is installed prior to remap.

Ive been wondering about intakes and benefits with regards to remaps too so would like to hear peoples opinions or if you have performance figures with/without intake that would be extra sweet..

As for the remap.. I had an APR Stage 1 6 hour trial installed on mine yesterday.. Oh my god :) Its a fair bit quicker than my little starlet turbo used to be now so if you have £4-500 Id defo recommend one :)

Peeps have seen a fair increase in bhp (on reputable Dyno's) with stage 1 and just an intake. IMO it can only help, will work best in conjunction with a decent Sports Cat TBE but you then stage 2 anyway.

Probablya a stupid question but would you have to get it remapped after installing an air intake if it was mapped prior?
