URGENT - RCD510 Question?
« on: July 21, 2013, 11:16:56 pm »
Hi everyone!

Need an answer ASAP for this and thought you guys could help me out?

I own a 2007, 1.9TDI golf with either the RCD300 or the RCD500 head unit ( i cant tell the difference visually ).

It has a parrot mki9200 system installed on it and i love it and cant imagine not having it now haha!

If i buy a RCD510, will it be plug and play and fit the dash etc? And will my parrot kit still work? Sorry it may seem stupid but i have no clue as you can see?

Please reply I have found one going fairly cheap and I really want to get it!

Thanks
Vish

Yep will work :)

Thanks for answering! So it will fit the dash and the exisitng connections etc, and the parrot kit should still work, and be able to hijack the speakers when im using it etc? And whats this business about battery drainage? Read that some 2007 have the k series gateway and dont suffer, is there a way one could find out without stripping their console?

Thanks for your help
Vish

As a general rule if your car was built mid 2007+ you should not need to replace the Can Gateway however i would confirm the Gateway version in the car before installing the stereo as (from personal experience) there is nothing worse than leaving late for work only to find your battery is flat. You can find the revision of the gateway be either removing it or finding a local VCDS owner to scan your car. The latter being the least complicated way and may only cost you a couple of beer tokens.

If you do need a new Gateway you can get a precoded one from Eddie-NL for roughly £80 which is plug and play or slightly less and find a local VCDS owner and ask them to code it once it is in the car.

To install an RCD510 you will need the headunit which can be bought for £170-£250 depending on the version - The DAB version normally more expensive. In addition you will need a FAKRA adapter lead for the FM/AM aerial and can be bought off ebay for circa £8.

In a previous car i had a CK3100 parot which worked without issue with an RCD510 i had installed at the time.

Starting to wonder weather or not its worth it to be honest :/. Can't think of a single benefit other than the touch screen :/. I have full Bluetooth connection, audio streaming, voice recognition and dual microphones etc with the parrot, any need for a RCD510 other than to look good and maybe get robbed?

I had the rcd310 & parrot in mine.
Got an rcd510 DAB off turbo_herbie on ebay for £210 delivered. They take them out new cars that want RNS 510 fitted. The rcd510 sounds fantastic, much much better than rcd310. I use the sd card all the time, DAB is a bit hit & miss, but quality a lot better than FM.
This is a really good mod, oh and the parrot works fine, just plug in new headunit code & play  :happy2:

This is the thing! I never listen to radio :/. My parrot kit is the top of the range one with the removable LED screen etc. So i just play my music via Bluetooth with that :/. Then there's a USB in and a 3.5 auxiliary jack both in the glove box neatly tucked away for guests... What gains would i get from spending multiple hundreds of pounds on one :/

a lot better quality sound from the superior rcd510 amp, you can hear the improvement, but probably not worth £200plus.
you could throw more money at it and get rns510 with satnav, if you use satnav a lot.....
